WHY AN OAT BAR?
These oat bars are perfect for hiking and camping since they can be clipped onto backpacks or belt loops with a carabiner. The outer packaging is completely recyclable, while the oat bars themselves are covered in a reusable wrap. The materials used for the packaging are a more environmentally friendly alternative to the plastic and foil-lined wrappers on the market.
MAIN CHALLENGES
Learning how to screen print for the first time and creating a custom dieline for the packaging. I combined several dielines and altered them to fit the size of the oat bar and be easy to bring along on a hike.
INSPIRATION
& PROCESS
INSPIRATION & FLAVORS
In the summer in Finland, it is common for people to spend most of their time outdoors, enjoying the nature around them. This snack is perfect to bring along, whether for a quick stroll in the park or a longer hike in the forest.
The three berries (bilberry, strawberry, and black currant) are all flavors that relate strongly to Finnish culture. The majority of the packaging is written in Finnish, with only the flavor and product written in English and braille.
PROCESS
The colors of each packaging correspond with the berry flavor. Relating to Finnish design, the packaging is more minimalist allowing for the white space to match the balance between a commercial product and nature. Since the oat bars are completely plant-based, they also fit with the overall eco-friendly theme of the packaging. The packaging is also more accessible since the product name and flavor are written in braille on the front and top of the packaging.
